How do you know if we're available for your event date?


It's Easy! You can check our availability for your event by using our Check Your Date Form. We try to respond to all inquiries within a few hours.




Do Our Packages Include Taxes and Fees?


Yes! There is nothing worse than budgeting yourself and then during payment finding out there are hidden fees and taxes. We like you to know exactly what you're paying, so, all of our prices are exactly what you pay.




Can you substitute items in our packages?


Yes and No. There isn't really a fixed answer to this question. It really depends which items you would like to substitute. We are always happy to look at each situation. When you Check Your Date with us we will send you our Wedding Brochure which will allow you to select a package and then upgrade or add certain items like Flowers or A La Carte Items. Rather than removing items its often easier to start with a smaller package and then add the items you do want.




Can you pick the vendors we use, like florists, photographers etc.?


No. We offer all inclusive packages as we have a dedicated team that we work with. We have spent years creating these teams of vendors which allows us to offer our high quality vendors and services at fantastic prices.




Can you add your own vendors or services?


Not really, unless we OK it with you before hand. Unfortunately, over the years we have had issues with 3rd party vendors arriving at our events having been booked by the couple without us being aware. These vendors reflect on us as a company. Therefore over the years we have had to implement our Non Compete Policy. In contracting Big Island Weddings-Lani Larrua as your full service Event Planners and Coordinators, you agree not to compete in providing additional products and services for your booked event, including but not limited to Weddings, Vow Renewals, Proposals, Receptions. We cannot be held responsible for any items or services arranged through a 3rd party and not through Big Island Weddings-Lani Larrua.




What is the best way to contact us?


Email really is the best way! We are often busy, in and out of the office so trying to answer calls at a convenient time to give you the answers you need can be tough. We have found that email is the best and most efficient way to communicate, it also really helps as we and you can reference back to previous emails to keep track of what's going on. Can you call us to talk to someone?


Sure. The best way is to email us to setup a time for us to call you.




You want to be very involved with your Wedding Planning. Are we the best option for you?


Maybe. This is a great question and one that you may not think to ask. We setup this business to make getting married in Hawaii easy and affordable. We are not your "Traditional" Wedding Planners, as for Destination Weddings would not work that way. For example, there is no way for you to visit the Florist or try the Cake etc. We offer all-inclusive packages that "all you have to do is show up", that is actually our motto. Obviously, you don't just show up unaware of anything as we send a very detailed schedule, but the idea is that you can book your Wedding in Hawaii and not have to worry about a thing, you can spend time planning the other fun things to do while you're here. When you book, depending on the package or services you choose you can send us some ideas for Color Themes and Bouquet preferences and we do the rest. When we have questions we will email you. The idea is so it's a stress-free for you as possible. What if you want to be more involved? It depends how much more involved. At this point it starts to make the planning harder for us, things take longer to finalize and coordinate. The whole idea of what we created starts to gets lost. We make hundreds of couples very happy each year with many who couldn't and more importantly wouldn't have done it without us, however, we understand that if you need to be more hands on planning your Wedding, we may not be the company for you. We recommend contacting us to talk about your ideas and thoughts. I'm sure you'd be surprised and maybe excited at what we can offer.




We are not from the USA. Can we get a License to legally marry in Hawai`i?


Yes. You will follow the same process as anyone else to obtain your license. There are no special requirements. All you will need to do is file for your application online and then collect your certificate when you arrive in Hawaii. We will send you all of the details of how to apply during the planning process. See our How To Apply page for further details. Note: Depending on your country of origin you maybe required to obtain an Apostle from the State of Hawaii.









About Our Packages

Do you really just show up?


Yes! If you've seen our motto "All you have to do is show up" then you'll know that we are a zero-stress Wedding Planning company. We cater to the couples that, well, just want to show up. Obviously, there are things that need to be arranged and completed beforehand but much of that can be done via email. Everyone really loves the way we plan weddings!




Does your packages include transportation to and from the ceremony site?


No. Non of our Packages include Transportation. Over the years we have found that the number of our couples requesting Limousines has dropped dramatically and therefore stopped offering this service. If this is something that you would like then we do recommend arranging it yourself as that way you can select a company that you prefer and save money by booking with them directly. The majority of our couples travel to the Ceremony Location via a Rental Car, Uber or Taxi. A Rental Car is a great option as you can also use it to explore the island!




Are flights, accomodations and rental cars included in any packages?


Unfortunately, No. We get many emails asking us if Flights, Accommodation, and Rental Cars are included in our packages. As Wedding Planners and Coordinators we deal with everything relating to you getting married and the ceremony itself. When our Packages say "All Inclusive" it means for the Wedding Package not the vacation too. We recommend visiting travel websites like Expedia to search for the best deals and then using Trip Advisor to read reviews on hotels and accommodation.




Do your recommend Hotels, Accommodations and Activities?


Yes. We can! Once you have booked with us we will happily give you recommendations for Hotels, places to visit, things to see and options for a reception or evening meal after your Wedding. I'm sure you can appreciate that we get asked many questions before a client actually books their event with us and we have to be careful. We have learned over the years that many will take all the information and end up not actually booking with us. At the end of the day, time is money so we have to acknowledge that. Also, while we can recommend Hotel and Restaurants, we are usually too busy to ever actually visit most of them on all four islands, so while we may have visited there personally in the past things do change over the years. We do recommend doing your own research on Trip Advisor and other sites to see the latest information about places. We can certainly point you in the right areas etc.





Marriage License Information Questions

How do you apply for a Marriage License?


When you book with us we send you all the information you will need for obtaining your marriage license. It may seem like an ordeal or some crazy legal process but its really not that hard. We make it really easy so you don't need to worry. The prospective applicants must appear together in person before a marriage license agent to apply for a marriage license. Proxies are not allowed. The prospective applicants should be prepared to provide the necessary proof of age and present any required written consents and approvals. All of the necessary documents should be obtained prior to applying for a marriage license. The prospective applicants must prepare an official application and file the application in person with the marriage license agent. The application may be completed online (see website below). https://emrs.ehawaii.gov/emrs/public/home.html The application will not be accepted if sent by either postal mail or e-mail. Upon approval, a marriage license is issued at the time the application is made. The marriage license fee is $60.00 (plus $5.00 portal administrative cost). The fee may be paid online. The marriage license is good only in, but is valid throughout, the State of Hawaii. The marriage license expires 30 days from and including the date of issuance, after which it automatically becomes null and void.




Wno is eligible to appy for a Hawai`i License?


There are no state residence or U.S. citizenship requirements. Blood tests are not required. The legal age to marry is 18 years for both applicants. Applicants of 16 or 17 years of age who wish to marry require the written consent of both parents, legal guardian, or the family court. The parents or legal guardian do not have to be residents of the state. Consent forms may be obtained from a marriage license agent. Applicants of 15 years of age who wish to marry require the written consent of both parents or legal guardian, and the written approval of a judge of the family court. The parents or legal guardian do not have to be residents of the state. Consent forms may be obtained from a marriage license agent. Proof of age is required. A certified copy of a birth certificate must be presented for anyone 18 years of age or under. A valid I.D. or driver’s license may be presented for anyone 19 years of age or over. If previously married, proof of original divorce decree or death certificate needs to be presented to the marriage agent by the applicant if the divorce or death was final within 30 days of applying for a marriage license. Cousins may marry. However, the blood relationship between the prospective applicants cannot be closer than first cousins.




Who books the marriage license appointment?


You do. We have found that it's much easier and time effective for the couple to book the appointment with the agent in Hawaii. You know your travel details and schedule better than we do and you will be able to choose the best date for you. We will send you a list of our regularly used agents in Hawaii to contact to arrange your appointment. However, if you prefer we can also make that appointment for you. If for any reason you can't make an appointment and would like us to help please just let us know.




Can you get your marriage license at home?


No. To legally get Married in Hawaii you MUST obtain a Hawaii Marriage License issued by the State of Hawaii. A Marriage License from any other State or Country will not be valid in Hawaii. Obtaining your Hawaii Marriage License is really easy and we guide you through the process.




Can you get a Marriage License Appointment on the weekend?


Sometimes. Generally speaking the agents are available in the weekdays only. However, if you arrive in Hawaii on a Weekend and plan to marry before the Monday then we can help you secure a "out of hours" appointment. We always advise that you arrive in Hawaii with at least 2 weekdays before your event. If that is not possible we can always work something out.




Do you really need a Marriage License?


Yes. To legally marry in Hawaii you must have your correct, legal and completed marriage license with you at your ceremony. If you do not have the correct paperwork with you the minister or officiant will and lawfully refuse to conduct the ceremony.




How much does a License cost and who pays?


The current Hawaii Marriage License Applications costs $65.00 and you can pay with any Debit or Credit Card when applying online. You will also need $5.00 in cash when you attend the appointment in Hawaii. Who Pays? You are solely responsible for applying, paying for and obtaining your marriage license before your Ceremony. You must both appear in person with your Valid ID's or Passports (No Birth Certificate Required) to collect your marriage license while in Hawaii. We cannot be held responsible for any issue that may arise involving your marriage license. You must have your correct, legal and completed marriage license with you at your ceremony. If you do not have the correct paperwork with you the minister or officiant will and lawfully refuse to conduct the ceremony.




Will you USA State recognize your Hawai`i Wedding as legal?


Yes! Provided you have got your Marriage License then every state within the USA will recognize your Hawaii Wedding as an official and legal Wedding. You will receive your Marriage Certificate about 4-6 weeks after your ceremony.




When will you receive your Official Marriage Certificate?


You will receive your official Marriage Certificate about 4-6 weeks after your ceremony. It will be mailed to the address that you used on your application. International: If you are from overseas then it may take a little longer to ship the documents to you. Additional Copies: We always recommend ordering additional copies of your Marriage Certificate so that if you need extra copies or loose one you don't need to wait for a copy from Hawaii. What do you do if you have to change the license appointment?


If for any reason you need to change or cancel your marriage license appointment we ask that you contact the agent directly as soon as possible.




What do you need if you are divorced?


If previously married, proof of original divorce decree or death certificate needs to be presented to the marriage agent by the applicant if the divorce or death was final within 30 days of applying for a marriage license. So basically, unless you were divorced for 30 days or less before getting re-married you do not need the documentation.





Booking Information

Pre-Booking Checklist


Decide your Date: Once you have decided on the date for your event we will confirm our availability! Choose your Package: We have many packages from Elopements to Weddings. Remember, any of our Packages can be tailored to fit your specific needs and requirements - If you don’t see a package that works for you just let us know and we can build one for you. Customize your Package: You can choose any A La Carte or additional Floral items to add to your package to truly personalize and customize it - Remember if you forget something you can add it to your package at any time. Choose your Beach Location: We have many beautiful locations available on the Big Island. We can help you select the ideal location and this can be left until a later date or until you have finalized other details like accommodation etc. Reserving the date is the most important thing.




What's the best way to book with us?


Step 1. Booking Form: When you are ready to book please complete our Booking Form by clicking HERE. Remember to select your package from the drop down menu and list any additional items you require. Step 2. Payment: We will send an invoice to the email address on the Booking Form. If your Wedding is within 45 days full payment will be required. If not, 25% of the package cost will be required as a deposit with the full and final balance due 45 days prior to the event. Step 3. Booking Your Minister: As soon as we receive both your Booking Form and Payment we will save the date for you. We will then confirm your Minister and send you a Confirmation Letter with the next steps needed. Step 4: Getting your Marriage License: We make the process really easy. All the information on how to obtain your Marriage License will be included in your Confirmation Letter.




When should you book?


As soon as you can. We tend to book up early for popular dates and times of year so as soon as you know the island and the date we suggest booking. The exact location and time can be worked out later.




Is there a Deposit required to Book?


Yes. We do require a deposit to book your Wedding or Event. If the Event is not within 45 days of Booking then we require a 25% non-refundable deposit to secure our services and that date for you. The full balance is due no later than 45 calendar days before your confirmed event date. If you are booking a "Last Minute" Wedding or Event (45 days prior is considered last minute) then full payment would be required.




When is the Full Balance Due?


We require your non-refundable final balance payment 45 calendar days before your confirmed event date. When we send you your Confirmation Letter we will confirm your final balance date.




What is considered a Last Minute event?


We consider a "Last Minute Event" to be any event booked within 45 days of the scheduled event date.




You paid a few days ago and haven't received a Confirmation Letter?


This is perfectly normal. To make the whole process as streamlined and stress-free as possible there are certain things we do in a certain order. We wont send you a Confirmation Letter until we have confirmed your Officiant, this can take anywhere from 24 hours to 7 days. This way, as soon as you receive your Confirmation Letter you will have all the info needed to start your Marriage License Application.









Your Big Day

Do we send you a Schedule, Timeline or Itinerary?


Yes. We send you a Event Schedule about 14 days prior to your event. This will contain all the names and numbers of our team who will be at your event along with a detailed timeline for the event.




Are you expected to tip for services on your Wedidng Day?


Generally No. We never expect a Bride or Groom to be tipping on their Wedding Day, it just doesn't feel right. Our team are paid rates for services that were pre-negotiated with us to include tips. However, as with any situation in life, if you choose to that is up to you,




How long is the whole event from start to finish?


The event is usually about 1 Hour, but remember time to arrive and leave so noramlly it's about 1.5 Hours total.




How long does the ceremony part last?


The actual Ceremony itself can be anywhere from 15-25 minutes depending on the Officiant and if you include your own Vows etc.




Can your guests use confetti?


No. We try hard to protect our oceans and all the wildlife within it. The State of Hawaii and ourselves do not allow the use of any "man made" confetti under any circumstances other than what we supply and offer in the form of a Flower Shower. This is made up of Live Rose Petals. The use of any of the following but not limited to plastic, paper, foil or bio-degradable confetti of any form is not allowed under any circumstances during the ceremony. The use of the above confetti causes a unseen environmental issue within the land and ocean. If any of the items listed above are used there will be a cleaning fee of $250.00 required.




Can you bring your own alcohol to the beach?


No. It is illegal to consume alcoholic beverages on the State Public Beaches.




Why don't we serve alcohol?


It is illegal for us to sell, serve or to even be aware of you consuming any alcoholic beverage of any type while on Hawaii State Property, which includes all beaches, parking, beach access etc. For a full list of Hawaii State Park Rules please Click Here We offer a Non-Alcoholic Sparkling Cider Toast which can be served and consumed on the beach and other State property. By signing below you agree to not consume any alcohol while on State property at anytime during the ceremony. As your full service event Planners & Coordinators you agree to not bring, serve or consume any alcohol beverage during the allocated event time with us.




Do you have a wedding rehearsal?


No. We offer very simple "all you have to do is show up" packages at very competitive prices. A rehearsal would effectively take the same amount of time, if not more, than the actual ceremony and require an extra day to be scheduled. We can connect you with your Officiant if you had any particular Vows or Verses you wishes to go over.





Weather

What happens if it rains on your Wedding Day?


Some people would consider it lucky to have rain on your Wedding Day. However, that's not the case for everyone so it's worth reading our policy in this event. All our events are planned and scheduled in advance and, in most cases, cannot be rescheduled due to weather. That means that your event will proceed as planned, rain or shine. In the event of rain, BIW-LL will provide umbrellas at no additional charge to you. If in our sole reasonable opinion, the weather presents a threat to the health and safety of you or your guests, we will do our best to reschedule but this cannot be guaranteed and subject to availability.




Have we ever cancelled an event due to weather?


Amazingly not to date. While Hawaii's weather is hard to predict due to all the micro climates, unless it's a big weather system any clouds and rain usually passes over quickly. Also one side of an island maybe rainy and the other side is dry. The one thing our couples worry about is the weather and it's rarely ever an issue.




Is it too hot to marry mid-day?


It really depends on the person but mid-day can be a little hot and uncomfortable on the beach if you're planning on wearing a suit or Wedding Dress. Also remember that the Sun is directly above you during this time so it not ideal for pictures. However, some of our locations are better mid to late afternoon and shaded to cool things off a little.




What is the best time of the day to get married?


This is totally upto you, we offer events from Sunrise to Sunset! Obviously Sunset is the most popular time for a Ceremony on the beach and when you see the pictures it's not hard to see why, however, mornings can be magical too.




Is there a rainy season in Hawai`i?


Sort of. November, December and January can be wetter than other months, although that's not always the case. We do as many weddings in those months as others and we haven't been affected by bad weather yet!





VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Do You sign a Contract or Agreement?


Yes. Everyone booking an event with us is required to fill out and sign a contact. This is standard procedure for most companies. It is highly advised that you sign a contract with any company as it protects both parties best interests. If the company you choose to book with does not have one then it's certainly a good idea to questions why.




What happens if you cancel your event?


If for any reason you need to cancel your event at any time before the event date, all deposits including full balances and all additional payments made for services to Big Island Weddings-Lani Larrua will be forfeited to cover the cost of arranging and canceling your event and therefore are non-refundable under any circumstances. This clause also includes individual payments made for A La Carte items, Flowers and any and all other services offered by Big Island Weddings-Lani Larrua and www.lanilarrua.com at any time from the initial date of booking until the account is paid in full. Why we don't offer refunds? As you know, planning Weddings isn't easy and is very time-consuming. From the first email or phone call we are working for you, a lot of times we will answer many questions before even receiving a deposit, which all takes time.

Once you officially book with us we spend hours planning and arranging, booking and securing vendors, paying deposits and working on your behalf to create a unique event for you. When an event is cancelled we then have to work just as hard to cancel the event and also possibly loose deposits ourselves. We also have to take into account the business that we may have turned down due to already being committed to your date. Therefore we have a strict no refund policy.




Can you postpone or reschedule?


Yes but with limitations. If you need to postpone, reschedule, alter or change your event / ceremony plans, we can reschedule your event to another date provided that we are informed and confirmed by email no later than 30 calendar days before your event. Your deposit and (or) balance will be applied to the new date. The new date will be subject to our availability and subject to our rescheduling fee of $350.00. Please note that other fee’s may also apply in certain circumstances.
